Rumi Tube - The Power of Love to Create

It's been a while since I posted here but recently two things came up that I just had to share with my adoring blogosphere (Liz). First was when a friend of mine (Liz) sent me a link to this time-lapse video of a woman during her pregnancy. It is pretty incredible and I like the way they become a whole real family with a dog at the end:

Also, and more along the lines of what I want this blog to become, I was just reading some poetry by Rumi, the 13th century poet, and my new favorite. There were a few lines in a poem that really struck me. You could say they were pregnant with meaning. Their bellies just bulged over with something that reached out and grabbed me (that's kind of an accidental Alien reference, oops!). Here they are, unadulterated (get it, sex, adulterated, pregnancy...):

Whenever two are linked this way, there comes another
from the unseen world. It may be through birth,
if nothing prevents conseption,
but a third does come, when two unite in love,
or in hate. The intense qualities born
of such joining appear in the spiritual world.

You will recognize them when you go there.
Your associations will bear progeny.
Be careful, therefore. Wait and be conscious,
before you go to meet anyone.
Remember there are children to consider!

Children you must live with and tend to,
born of your emotions with another, entities
with a form, and speech, and a place to live.
They are crying for your even now.
You have forgotten us. Come back.
Be aware of this. A man and a woman together
always have a spiritual result.

From The Essential Rumi, translated by Coleman Barks, p57

To me what reaches out and grabs me is that love is creation. That even if a couple never has children, they are creating something that never existed before by their union. Lately I've been wondering if I am even cut out to be in a long-term relationship because perhaps, I'd just keep messing things up. This poem seems to say that you will mess up if you aren't fully committed but that if you really give it a go, you'll make something new. And I've really been wanting to make something new lately. Its just not easy to create sometimes and I think I get scared at the thought of that, even though I just now realized that that is what there is to be scared about...creating something "another (person, place or thing) from the unseen world."

Don't go chasing waterfalls...

Nicole Kidman's most recent pregnancy came to her like a flash flood. Seemingly, nine months before her water breaks, she hopped into some Australian waterfalls and BANG, she was pregnant. Read all about how she's got a full tank here http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/09/24/kidman.fertile.water.ap/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

I am pregnant with anticipation. Long story short, I've been unemployed for OVER two months now. For those of us who have bills to pay, that means I'm past due. I was supposed to hear back from an org., that shall remain undisclosed, today! We'll, its past working hours and a Friday, to boot. I just went on a run because I'd built up tons of nervous energy today, fretting about their decision. Thing is, I don't have any more input. After three interviews and an assignment, I'm done. I need to give it up, birth this sucker and wait to see if its a shining star or not. That's my goal for this weekend since I can't do anything right now. I REALLY want this job, in particular, but I can't hire myself so I just have to relax into it with the confidence that I've done my best and that I'm qualified. Its true, I am.

BTW, the green baby is at the top of this post because the organization I so long to work for is an environmental non-profit. Hence, the green baby of environmental justice.

So this afternoon I cut open a yellow bell pepper to find another, smaller green one, inside. It looked a little like this (but yellow):
So, I decided that in a world so full of pregnant things (men, women, pauses) there ought to be a blog dedicated to documenting them. I also have long been interested in gravida, since the days when I dreamt I'd be the mother of the baby who'd save the world from environmental destruction. In a strange turn of events, it was also green, like the wee babe I found in today's pepper.

I'm not quite sure where this blog may take me but I think it will be fun to explore the world around me through the lens of "things that are pregnant."

Remember that Bill Cosby episode where he's pregnant? I think he gives birth to a sub sandwich...Oh, men and their babies! Along those same lines, I also think men might give birth to TVs or wiis.

But seriously, I'm not the kind of pregnancy-obsessed woman who is excited about the baby shower and worries about getting fat. I think it is really the coolest thing I could ever do. It kind of blows my mind to think about it...in a few years. No worries. This has little to do with my own reproduction. I just want to talk about others'.
